Description:
Analyzing what your users search for can give you valuable insights, but simply looking at the most common keywords can be misleading. This tutorial teaches attendees a practical approach to analyzing a large set of keywords, categorizing them according to their meaning through an iterative approach, and then characterizing the behavior of the users that fit into the categories you discover. We will discuss process, ways to interpret common patterns in search queries, and how to interpret some metrics to understand how the different categories of users interact with your site differently. for this tutorial!

Michael Beasley is a UX designer at ITHAKA and hasextensive experience in usability testing, userinterface design, and web analytics. Previously, hewas the measurement team lead at Pure Visibility,where he fused web analytics with traditional userexperience activities to better answer clients'questions about their customers. Mike earned hisMSI degree in human-computer interaction at theUniversity of Michigan School of Information andwas active for several years on the board of theMichigan chapter of the User ExperienceProfessionals' Association. Mike is the author of thebook Practical Web Analytics for User Experience.
