Description: UX research professionals often desire most that their work has impact, which can be tricky in fast-paced industry environments with short development cycles. This talk describes C-RITE , a method that maximizes impact through cross-disciplinary collaboration on research observation, analysis, and design exploration within an agile, user-centered development framework. We showcase real-world tested techniques that Google’s Android and TV teams have developed and share tactics for reducing logistical overhead in a lean, iterative user-centered design process.

Biography:

Ms. Roeber headed Android’s UX research from 2007 through 2012 where she established a user-centered research program and built a world class team. Previously, she started Google’s first international UX research program, bringing design inspiration and insights from technology users of Mumbai’s slums, Hong Kong’s high-rises, and cities across Europe. Prior to Google, Helena lead user research for a laser-projected keyboard at Silicon Valley start-up Canesta. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Studio Art from Stanford University.

Dr. Jhilmil Jain is the head of user research at Android. She is passionate about leading teams that execute research to shape the product strategy, design, and marketing. Earlier in her 10-year career in Silicon Valley, she worked at Microsoft, HP Research Lab and IBM Almaden Research Lab. She has successfully applied and refined the CRITE methodology in domains such as TV, retail, mobile platforms, gaming etc. across various companies. Dr. Jain is a known expert in the field - she consistently presents and has held leadership positions at conferences like UXPA, CHI, HCII.
